Description:

The factory letter lists this rifle with a round barrel and plain trigger when it was received in the warehouse on October 12, 1876, and when it shipped much later in May 4, 1878, in order 11667. It features the very desirable First Model receiver with grooved dust cover guides and dust cover with checkered oval finger grip. The sides of the receiver are finely engraved with attractive scrollwork and bordering closely resembling factory patterns of the period. Entwining line motifs are engraved on the top and bottom of the receiver, and the scrollwork and bordering extend to the cartridge elevator and dust cover. The rifle correctly lacks caliber markings and has a discreet recent Birmingham nitro proof. The rifle also features a dovetail nickel blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, a folding tang peep sight graduated from 0-75 on the side, a buttstock sling swivel (swivel on magazine tube has been removed), and a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 70% period retailer applied blue finish with high edge wear. 60% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. Patterns of original case colors remain on the lever. 80% original case colors remain on the hammer. The engraving is crisp. The stock is fine with numerous minor-moderate dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
