Manufactured in 1882 as a Second Model carbine with dust cover rail attached to the receiver with a screw. The second model dust cover was replaced with a third model dust cover long ago. It shows standard markings including the faint caliber marking on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. Blade front and replacement folding ladder rear sights and saddle ring and saddle ring swivel attached to the left of the receiver. Mounted with the 18 inch long musket style forearm and a straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate.

Good, retains traces of blue finish in sheltered areas with the balance mostly a mottled grey-brown patina. The moderately worn wood has minor dings and scratches throughout, a few hairline cracks, some minor chipping around the tangs, and a couple missing slivers near the upper tang. Mechanically excellent.
