This near new Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine with the original Winchester hanging tag and shipping crate was manufactured in 1923. The hanging tag shows the carbine serial number, features and issue date of "3/15". This particular carbine is fixed with a raised pinned front sight and folding elevator rear sight graduated to 200 yards. Standard two-line New Haven address on the left side of the barrel in front of the rear sight and just behind the barrel band. The tang is marked with the Winchester three-line trade marking. Complete with oiled walnut straight grip stock and crescent steel buttplate. Comes with the original shipping crate which was shipped to the Norfolk & Western R.R. Co. of Roanoke, VA in the 1920s. The crate was discovered by Norfolk & Western Chief Special Agent R.M. Gillispie in 1967 with 10 Model 1894s which had never been issued for security detail. Special Agent Gillispie sold the rifles to Norfolk & Western employees for $75.00 each. This crate retains the 1967 shipping label addressed to Norfolk & Western Regional Chief Special Agent L.H. Smith of St. Louis. The crate measures 42x11x11 inches. Each end of the crate is marked "Winchester/Carbines/Model 1894."

Near new. The original blued finish is 99% with some very minor wear on the top of the action and on the heel of the buttplate. Otherwise mint. The oil finished stock and forearm are also near new with a small sliver of finish loss on the left side of the tang, and all other minute blemishes are results from storage. The Winchester hanging tag is fully legible. An exceptional Model 1894 Carbine with history. The totally original crate rates fine for the amount of traveling it has undergone showing typical wear and cracks. The lid has split, missing 10 inches of the corner.
