The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .22 Long caliber and plain trigger when received in the warehouse on January 5, 1891 and shipped the next day with 7 other Model 1873s. This is a third model with the dust cover rail integrally machined to the receiver and a dust cover with serrated rear edges. Dovetail blade front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight on a barrel stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking and "22 LONG." The cartridge elevator is marked "22 CAL./LONG." The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873," and the lower tang has the serial number. The buttstock is fitted with a solid crescent buttplate. Winchester sold approximately 19,000 Model 73 rifles in .22 caliber (short and long) from 1884 to 1904.

Very fine, retaining 60% plus original blue finish thinning to a brown. 50% original case colors remain on the hammer. The wood is fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
