Description:

Remington's Army Model revolvers were the second most widely used sidearms among the Union force during the Civil War. They were sturdier than Colt's revolvers and had cylinders that were much easier to remove. Many show signs of hard use but remain functional. Such is the case with the New Model carried by Buffalo Bill as a scout and hunter. This outstanding example was certainly not exposed to hard use and abuse and has a crisp "RH" cartouche on the left grip and small inspection markings indicating it was purchased for the fight to preserve the Union. It has a "pinched" blade front sight, frame groove rear sight, blue finish, and standard markings. The underside of the grips have the matching serial numbers and three initials which appear to be "S.J.R."

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall. 80% plus of the bright, original, high polish blue finish remains. There is some flaking on the barrel on the upper left and left. The cylinder has only the slightest of rotation marks. The hammer even retains virtually all of the rich case colors, and the excellent grips have strong original oil finish, a crisp cartouche, and very minor storage wear. The action functions fine, and the markings are nice and distinct.
