Description:

Captain Robert Parker Parrott was the superintendent of the West Point Foundry in Cold Spring, New York, and designed Parrott rifle in 1860 and patented it the following year. Some of the earliest manufactured were sold to southern states and were used by the Confederates during the war. The Parrott Rifles were built in a variety of sizes from 10 to 300 pounders for both field and naval use. The 10-Pounders were widely used in the field throughout the Civil War. This one has a 2.9 rifled bore that is around 69 3/8 inches long, "R.P.P/W.P.F" (Robert Parker Parrott and West Point Foundry) on the right trunnion, "U S" on top of the tube at the trunnions, "1862" on the left trunnion, "J.C. BIDWELL/PITTSBURGH" on the trunnion straps, "No 211/10 PDR/2.9" on the muzzle, "PATENTED/1861" on the back at the breech, and a reproduction Paulson Bros. Ordnance carriage.

Rating Definition:

Very good with moderate pitting under black paint on the tube, mild wear from storage and display on the carriage mainly on the wheel tires.
