Description:

This extraordinary Remington Model 1875 Single Action revolver was manufactured c. 1875-1889. The revolver has a rare high polish blue finish on the barrel, cylinder and frame (most, if not nearly all are nickel plated). The hammer and loading gate have a color casehardened finish. The revolver has two-piece, oil-finished walnut grips. The butt has a factory fitted lanyard loop. The top of the barrel and the right side of the frame are stamped with the initials: "C.F.P.A." (Capper's Farmers Protective Association, Topeka, Kansas, 1880-1893). The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILLION. N.Y. U.S.A." in one line. The caliber, "44.W." (.44-40 WCF) is stamped on the lower edge of the left grip. The serial number or batch number is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grip. The serial number is penciled on the inside of both grips. The Model 1875 Single Action revolver was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army. Although the revolver was well-designed, lack of government contracts limited sales.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver is in above average condition. It retains 75% of the original, high polish blue finish. The barrel, ejector housing, trigger guard and cylinder have about 90% of the blue finish. The finish on the frame and back strap has flaked and those components have a very attractive, smooth, gray-brown patina. The hammer and loading gate retain 90% of the color casehardened finish with strong case colors. The grips are in near-mint condition with perfect caliber markings. The screw heads are in perfect condition. The barrel legend and "C.F.P.A." markings are crisp. The action is crisp and functions perfectly. This is an outstanding example of an extremely rare blued finish Remington Model 1875 Single Action revolver that one almost never encounters!
