The factory letter lists this revolver as one of 25 in .44-40 with a blue finish when shipped to Simmons Hardware Co. in St. Louis on June 26, 1880. The letter also notes that the lack of barrel length and grip material in the ledger usually implies the revolver had the standard 7 1/2 inch barrel and a walnut grip. The barrel has a blade front sight, "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" in an etched panel on the left, the one-line address on top, and "44" on the bottom at the breech. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent marking, and "44 CF" is below on the trigger guard. The loading gate has the assembly number "916." Matching serial numbers are on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and rear mortise of the grip.

Good with patches of original blue finish in the protected areas, dark gray and brown patina on the balance, mild pitting concentrated at the cylinder, modified muzzle and front sight, some vice marks and gouges on frame and cylinder, multiple notches, and moderate overall wear. The grip is fine and has moderate handling wear, a pinned crack in the left side, moderate lower edge wear including a chip at the toe on the right, and general scratches and marks. It has an added shim and replacement mainspring and is mechanically fine.
