Description:

Nicknamed for the machined grooves that serve to cycle and lock the cylinder, the Model 1886 was an improved break-open version of the 1878. While sturdy and well-made, the 1886 was discontinued in favor of the 1896 Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol, though some are known to have been carried by participants in the First World War. Blade front and notch rear sights, with the top of the barrel rib marked "GEBR.MAUSER&Cie OBERNDORF a/N. WURTTEMBERG.1878.PATENT." and a vented cutout above the cylinder. A safety switch is installed on the left side of the barrel lug, which interfaces with the cylinder and locks out the release latch on the front. Fitted with a checkered casehardened single action hammer and a pair matching number of gutta-percha grips with scroll decoration and scenes of an exotic bird (possibly a phoenix) fighting a dragon.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 90% plus of the original nickel finish, showing a few light spots and handling marks. The grips are very fine, with a few minor scratches and sharp detail in the decoration. Mechanically excellent.
