Manufactured around the early 1900s (Holland & Holland had exclusive rights to Fosbery's patent until 1899). The primarily smoothbore browned Damascus barrel has rifling only at the choke, a small steel bead front sight, folding notch rear sight, "16" on the left flat at the breech, "1315" on the right at the breech, and Liege post-1893 black powder proofs, "G.V. FOSBERY'S PATENT," "CH. B. RAYE," and "D FRES" marked on the bottom. The blued receiver has a detailed scene of a hunter and his dog in a wooded scene in gold on the left, traditional floral scroll engraving on the balance, the "crown/AF" trademark of Auguste Francotte of Belgium near the front on the left, and a "crown/lion with raised sword/13640" marking towards the rear on the left. The breechblock and lever are casehardened. The latter has primarily crosshatch engraving. The stock and forearm have checkering with scallop and triangle accents, and the butt has a compartment containing a five-piece steel cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus original finish, minor edge wear, crisp engraving, bright gold scene, and some scattered light marks and scratches. The wood is also very fine and has crisp checkering, general light scratches and dings, a few divots, and attractive grain. Mechanically excellent.
