Description:

This same type of musket is pictured and listed as item M.41 in "The History of Weapons of the American Revolution" by Neumann were it is identified as an c. 1750-1770 German-Dutch musket and as S-40 "Mid-Eighteen-century banded German flintlock musket" in "Weapons of the American Revolution" by Moore. It has a blade front sight on the rear of the upper barrel band, bayonet lug on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle, star mark on top at the breech, what looks like "HB" marked on the "banana" style lock, curled trigger, brass furniture, absent sling swivels, some hand scratches markings on the butt, and raised carving at the end of the flats and by the upper tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus overall with mostly mottled gray patina, mild pitting, aged patina on the brass, worn through spot at the heel, thinned forend, some chips and cracks mainly in the forend, insect damage on the butt, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
