The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 6 inch barrel in .22 caliber, blue finish, and type of stocks not listed when shipped to Captain W.I. Vrooman of Rochester, New York, on August 5, 1940. The Colt records indicated that the special order cut away trigger guard was done at the Colt factory on order number 9302. At the time of this writing Capt. W.I. Vrooman remained unidentified. Factory cut away trigger guards are rarely encounter and are generally found on so-called Fitz-Gerald Specials, which were hide away guns with the short barrels, cut away trigger guards and bobbed hammers. Other features on this revolver include an elevation adjustable Patridge blade front sight, a windage adjustable square notch rear sight, standard Colt markings, matching serial number on the frame and crane, checkered hammer and trigger, checkered back strap and replacement silver Rampant Colt medallion grips with a relief carved eagle and shield motif on the right panel.

Very fine, retaining 85% plus original blue finish with high edge wear visible on the cylinder, muzzle, and forward tip of trigger guard. The grips are fine with minor handling marks, typical age cracking on the bottom and attractive mellow appearance. The carving is crisp. Mechanically excellent. This factory documented Officers Model Target cut away trigger guard revolver is a true rarity in Colt collecting and is a must have for the serious collector.
