Description:

These U.S.M.C. Naval Officer uniforms are exceedingly rare. Both tunics are green in color, with brass "eagle/anchor" button sets, and a single Service Chevron on the left sleeve. 1) Twill construction tunic, fitted with a set of silver bullion Captain's bars on each shoulder board, brass "eagle/globe/anchor" badges on the high collar, and a bullion Naval Aviator Badge on the left breast. An internal label is marked for Kahn Tailoring of Indianapolis, and an inside pocket tag is made out to Ford Rogers of Quantico, Virginia. Consignor research notes LT Ford O. Rogers as a U.S.M.C. aviator with both the Northern Bombing Group Squadron "B" and 218 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. One of America's first naval aviation outfits, the Group was assembled as a counter to German u-boat activity, both to hunt the subs directly and perform strategic bombing on their bases and support network. Due to initial shortages in aircraft, many Group members were seconded to Royal Air Force units already engaged in similar missions. 2) Felt construction tunic, no rank insignia, badges, or tags, with a multi-piece shoulder patch of a red, blue and white roundel with the central white circle merged with a gold-trimmed USMC eagle/globe/anchor emblem. They were used by enlisted men attached to the U.S.M.C naval bases.

Rating Definition:

1) Good overall. One of the front buttons is absent, with mild wear overall. A pair of holes have been repaired (possibly period of use) on the lower right pocket. 2) Good, with mild wear.
