Description:

1) Army Captain's tunic, tan construction with "U.S." and "winged propeller" collar pins, silver finished rank insignia, plastic buttons, silver bullion aviator's wings on the left breast, and the "A" patch of the U.S. 3rd Army on the left shoulder above a set of three bullion service chevrons. A tag from Schoenbrun & Company of Chicago is present inside the right interior pocket. 2) Heavy leather coat, brown leather exterior with cream cloth interior, no maker's or ownership markings present. 3) L. Goldsmith & Son "Neverbreak" brand trunk, 31 inches wide, 17 1/2 inches deep and 13 1/2 inches tall, with an Army Air Service roundel painted on the lid, a number of destination labels, and marking for Captain M.F. Falk, U.S. Air Service, on the lid and front. Inside the trunk are an unmarked pair of binoculars in a leather case, tan felt uniform cap with detached cord, a picture of four aviators in a 6 1/4 inch by 8 1/2 inch painted metal frame (a note on the back identifies Falk, two 1st Aero Squadron aviators, and a French pilot), and a larger aviator portrait (identified on back as Captain Falk) in a wooden frame. The tunic, trunk and the trunk contents are noted by the consignor as the former property of Captain Mervyn Falk, Army Aviator.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good, with mild wear and handling marks. 2) Fair, with cracking and wear appropriate to age and use, as well as a few repairs to the leather and cloth that may be from the period of use. 3) Fair, with mild war and tear overall. The cap is missing the sweatband and some stitching, and the binocular case shows stains, cracks and lost stitching.
