Description:

Originally produced in May of 1944 and subsequently arsenal upgraded to the M1D Sniper configuration, a procedure more typically performed on Springfield-made M1 receivers with Winchesters seldom used. Rifles so converted were used as sniper weapons during Korea and the Vietnam War. Blade front and peep rear sights, "DRC" windage drum, Springfield bolt, trigger housing, hammer, safety, relief cut operating rod and "S-A-2-52" dated barrel. The stock has a circled "P" on the wrist, with a "top half" style Springfield "SA" cartouche and a "RA" Raritan stamp on the left side of the buttstock, and a checkered steel buttplate. and a faint cartouche (possibly starting with "H"), and unmarked leather cheekpiece (no screws), tan canvas sling and a checkered steel buttplate. Included with the rifle is a hand-numbered shipping box, and the following accessories, most including (or still sealed inside) their original packaging: a M84 scope, serial number "24177", with mount, sunshield and (sealed) rubber eye cup, scope case, sling, M2 flash hider and a number of cleaning tools.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal upgraded to M1D specification, with 95% of the parkerized finish, showing some light cycling wear and handling marks. The right rear corner of the scope base has been milled down to provide clearance for the operating rod. The stock is fine, with some dings and dark spots. The scope is excellent, with light exterior wear and crisp optics. Mechanically excellent.
