Description:

This is an exceptional example of an original factory cased 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol complete with accessories. This pistol has all the original accessories and components to include the original wooden shoulder stock, four matching original wood based magazines, the original black leather holster, carrying strap, walnut cheek piece, spare dummy magazine with brass oiler on the end, original silver oil bottle in its original leather carrying case, screwdriver, take down pin punches and the original black leatherette carrying case that houses the pistol, stock and accessories. The overall condition and originality of the pistol itself and the various accessories is outstanding and would be impossible to upgrade or improve on. These 1893 Borchardt pistols were the true forerunner of the world famous and historic Luger pistol. The Luger employed the unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by George Luger and was used throughout production of the Luger pistol from 1900-through 1942. The right side of the barrel extension is marked in three lines; "SYSTEM BORCHARDT. PATENT./DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN,/BERLIN." with the top of the toggle mechanism carrying the German patent markings of: "D.R.P./No. 75837". The left side of the breech block, toggle mechanism and barrel extension all have the early German commercial proofs of a "Crown over B and U" proofs, with the left rear section of the barrel marked with the fully German commercial proofs that consists of the "Crown over B, U, and G" proofs over "172,28". It is fitted with the original checkered walnut grips along with the original varnished border around the checkered panel in the center section of each grip. As noted. it has four original matching, nickel plated, wood base magazines with the last four digits of the serial number running lengthwise down on the wooden base of each magazine. The original walnut shoulder stock is complete with the original blued attaching mechanism. The original black leather holster is still attached to the side of the walnut shoulder stock and has the original leather stock attaching straps, and it also includes the original shoulder carrying strap, along with the original wooden cheek piece, the oiler, and various accessories as noted above.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blued finish on the pistol with minor edge and high spot wear (from holster) overall. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp and distinct checkering on both sides and nearly all of the original varnish remaining on the border around the edge of the checkering. The niter blued trigger and various springs all retain 98% of their original deep factory blue color. The pistol has all matching numbers. The walnut stock retains most of its original factory varnished finish with only minor handling marks on the exposed side of the stock, and the attaching iron retains 90% plus of its original blue finish overall with minor edge wear. The attached leather holster and straps are both in excellent condition, with a nice dark black color overall, some minor leather cracking on the front edge of the holster in a few places, all the stitching complete, and the leather still reasonable pliable. The four matching magazines are all in excellent condition with 98% of the original nickel plated finish remaining on each magazine, only minor handling marks on a couple of the magazines, and the last four digits of the serial number on each magazine stamped deep and the numbers still sharp on each magazine. The black leather carrying case is in fine condition, with the usual scattered minor storage nicks and scratches in the leather overall, and the nickel plated latches, locks and carrying handle complete. This specific cased Borchardt set is probably the highest condition, most original and fully complete Borchardt pistol rig that we've ever had the pleasure to offer for sale.
