Description:

Among the first Model 1908 Luger pistols acquired for the German military, this Luger shows a number of features that would be altered in later production. It was manufactured without a stock lug or hold-open device (the latter was military retrofitted during its service life, with the traditional externally visible pin and small approval stamp on the right side of the frame), has a blank chamber, and bears an "Imperial Eagle" firing proof and two "crown/gothic letter" proofs on the left side of the receiver, and not the right as would be traditional on nearly all military Lugers from the 1908s on forward through the end of the Nazi era, and a set of "commercial" pattern serial numbers instead of the more visible "military" pattern on later Lugers . Sights are fixed, with the "DWM" monogram on the toggle link, additional "Imperial Eagle" proofs on the barrel and breech block, "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" marked safety area and extractor, checkered grips and a wood base magazine. The front strap is unit marked "97.R.2.3." Minus the magazine, matching numbers are present on multiple components.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 80% plus of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear, and mild spotting and handling marks. Some heavier scuffs and dings are visible on the leading edges of the frame and the sides of the trigger guard. 40% original straw color is present on the small parts, and the grips are fine with some dings and flat spots. The transfer bar and disconnector need some adjustment, otherwise mechanically good.
