Manufactured by B.S.A. Shirley in 1945 and converted to sniper configuration by Holland & Holland. Fitted with a 3X No. 32 Mk 3 telescopic sight by Cooke, Troughton & Simms with pointer and crosswire reticle, two-piece leather lens caps, and an iron mount serial numbered to the rifle and attached to the receiver by two clamping screws, has been "bloomed" to enhance light gathering properties and waterproofed and is painted with a red "W" and blue "B". The rifle has a modified backsight without battle aperture and additional No. 4 Mk I (T) sling swivel ahead of the trigger guard. The butt-socket is stamped: "M47C/1945/R35064/TR". A "T" is on the receiver. The small Enfield inspection mark applied to late production No. 4 MK I (T) sniper rifles is on the receiver. The stock has a Holland & Holland "S51" conversion mark. The scope serial number "24245" is on the stock flat. The scope rings and base have matching assembly numbers "530/530" and "531/531". The rifle serial number is also on the bolt handle and forearm. The handguard is the late pattern with no grip serrations. The screw-fastened cheekpiece is beech or other hardwood. The buttstock has a gray pot metal buttplate. An "ENGLAND" export mark is on the receiver, and British proof marks are on the barrel at the muzzle. It has a U.S. M1907 russet leather sling, late production No. 8 Mark I scope case numbered to the rifle ("35064/R") and containing a sight adjustment tool, a handwritten label ("RIFLE: R35064/SCOPE: 24245/ MKIII") and sight adjustment instructions on the inside of the lid, No. 4 MK 2 spike bayonet and scabbard, olive drab hood, pair of fingerless gloves, six empty cloth .303 ammunition bandoleers, numerous .303 stripper clips and wooden transit case stenciled "CHEST S.A. No. 15 MK I" along with "BA 5885" and "TEL. SCT. MK 8" and an inventory sheet on the inside of the lid.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. This rifle appears to be as issued. The rifle and telescopic sight retain 98% of the original black and phosphate finish. The stock, forearm, handguards and cheek piece are in nearly new condition with only very minor storage wear. The scope optics are excellent. The elevation and windage knobs do not turn. The lens cover and sling are in near new condition. The scope can is very fine to excellent with 90% of the original olive-drab paint. The wooden transit case has the original paint and markings. The leather case handles have age dry-rot. This is a nearly new, as issued, all matching example of a No. 4 Mk. 1* (T) sniper rifle with all of the accessories originally issued with the rifle by the British Army.
