Description:

Manufactured in 1892 with standard Winchester markings along with the special marking "THE DAISY RIFLE" on the upper left flat. This marking is known to have been engraved on guns destined for Sydney, Australia through the dealer F. Lassetter & Co. Ltd. Most previously catalogued examples ordered by this dealer with this marking are Model 1873 rifles; however, the included copy of the Winchester ledger section indicates that at least four Model 1885 rifles were ordered with this engraving around the same time. The included Cody Firearms Museum research letter confirms the current configuration as well as the special "Daisy" inscription and receipt at the warehouse on 17 January 1893 and shipment on 9 February 1893 in order number 12564. It is fitted with blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights and a smooth schnabel tip forearm with ebony insert and a straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains 30% faded original blue finish with faint traced of the original case colors and the balance a smooth grey patina. The wood is fine with light scratches and dings scattered throughout, a hairline crack in the forearm, and retains most of the varnish. Mechanically excellent.
