Description:

Manufactured in 1975 and subsequently custom embellished by Master Engraver Bill Mains (1936-2012), who was Colt's primary factory engraver from 1967 to 1972. This gun was engraved by Mains when he was a freelance engraver, embellishing guns for high profile clients. He has signed his work "MAINS" ahead of the rear sight. The pistol has near full coverage floral scroll engraved motif of high quality one would expect from Mains. The engraving surrounds the original Colt markings on the slide and frame. Simple gold inlaid scrolls accent the engraving on the sides of the slide at the rear and front. The top of the slide has a gold relief federal eagle inside a flush gold inlaid circle panel that reads "U.S.A. 1776*1976." Gold inlaid "JTD" initials (unidentified at the time of this writing) appear ahead of the rear sight. The pistol has a jeweled chamber and stag grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions. Provenance: founder of Guess Jeans, Georges Marciano.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine as custom embellished by Master Engraver Bill Mains. The pistol retains 99% plus of the blue finish showing some minor handling marks (mostly on the front strap). The grips are near new showing the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
