Description:

According to the included paperwork, this blade was inspected at a 2007 NTHK event in Chicago, Illinois, where it received a score of 70 points (making it "Important" by their rating system) and was estimated to have been produced about 1592-1596 by a smith of the Echizen Seki school. Both the on-hand worksheet and the formal "origami" paperwork with envelope are included. The overall length is 32 1/2 inches, with a 23 3/8 inch long blade, showing attractive metal grain and a thin but solid wavy hamon, installed in a gold washed copper habaki. The tsuba is round, with pierced through and gold accent leaf designs, purple cord wrap over gold accented bird menuki, and gold and silver leaf designs on the fuchi and kashira. The tang is well aged and unmarked, with a single mekugi-ana. The saya is black lacquer finished with a black cord.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall. The polished blade shows a few small separations in the grain, a small amount of spotting and a few light contact rubs. The furniture is very good, with some stains on the wrap and some scuffing and denting on the saya.
