Description:

The barrel is marked "H.G. CORDES/BREMERHAVEN/No 1006" on top and measures 27 1/2 inches from the muzzle to the cascabel. H.G. Cordes of the port city of Bremerhaven, Lower Saxony, Germany, was active in the mid to late 1800s and also worked with John Phillip Rechten on bomb lance guns. Some of his other line throwing guns of this pattern are marked "Leinenwurf Mörser" meaning Line Throwing Mortar. He also sold signal lights, rockets, and other naval wares as well as guns.
