Manufactured in Eibar in the early 1820s by Ybarzabal with mounts marked by Alberdi (also from Eibar). The pistol has multiple similarities with the pair of miquelet pistols by Ybarzabal in the MET, particularly the belt hook and the embellishment on the barrel. Also see "Spanish Guns & Pistols" by W. Keith Neal and "Der Neue Stockel" by Heer. It is signed "Ybarzabal" on the lock below the rainproof "guttered" pan. The lock also has scroll engraving with gilded backgrounds, a nicely sculpted cock, and a bestial frizzen arm. The smoothbore part octagonal/part round barrel has a serrated gold band at the muzzle, gold backed scroll engraving, "FABRICA DE" (upper left flat) and "YBARZABAL" (upper right flat) in gold inlay, fleurs-de-lis on the upper side flats and Ybarzabal's maker's mark in gold on top at the breech. The trigger guard also has an gold "AL/BER/DI" maker's mark. The furniture is embellished en suite with the lock. The belt hook is pierced heart cut-out at the tip. The stock has a boar face carved between the trigger guard finial and barrel band, floral carving, border carving, and a finely checkered wrist. Ramrod absent.

Extra fine with 60% plus original niter blue and gold finish, mostly bright lock and furniture, some mild patination and spotting, general light scratches and marks, and generally minor age and storage associated wear. It appears to be unfired. The stock is fine and has crisp checkering and carving, mild scrapes and dings, and some slight cracks on the bottom. Mechanically excellent.
