These impressive iron mounted horse pistols were manufactured around 1680-1710 in Liege by Gilles Deselier/de Selier/Selier, brother of Philippe Selier who was also a gunmaker in Liege in the same period. He may be the father of 18th century gunmaker Guillaume Deselier. The convex "banana" shaped locks are signed "GILLE-DESELIER. [sic]" The smoothbore barrels have rounded brass blade front sights on sighting ribs, three rampant lion maker's marks on the breech sections, and dished upper tangs for rear sights. The attractively shaped furniture is also iron, and the side plates have attractive engraved scroll patterns. The stocks have molding along the bottom of the forends, swells at the ramrod entry pipes, and raised flats.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with mostly bright iron surfaces, some spotting, small areas of mild pitting, distinct markings and patterns, some chipping and filler in the toe section, a few minor cracks and repairs, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
