Description:

Manufactured from 1908 to 1917. This example has a wonderful factory game scene engraving. The receiver features engraved scrollwork and a double wavy line border. The left side of the receiver features an oval panel game scene depicting four ducks taking flight from a marsh, and the bolt is engraved with two pigeons in flight. There is a floral design engraved around the serial number on the underside of the receiver. It is known that Alden George Ulrich apprenticed under his father Conrad at age 17 and engraved for Marlin from 1905 to 1919. The barrel is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking and "12GA" on top and "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" on the left side. The underside of the barrel is marked "111775" (barrels were not numbered to the gun) followed by "F" for full choke. The upper tang has the model marking. Nicely figured and multi-point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with serrated Marlin buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% plus bright original blue finish. The engraving is crisp. The wood is very fine with scattered nicks and minor handling marks, crisp checkering overall and retaining most of the original finish. Mechanically excellent.
