Description:

Manufactured in 1861 and is one of only about 4,000 Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers manufactured with the full fluted cylinder. Many early production Colt Model 1860 revolvers with fluted cylinders were sold to southern dealers before the outbreak of hostilities in April 1861 and were used by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. These revolvers appear in the first 8,000 serial numbers and have a four-screw frame cut for a shoulder stock. It also has the one-line Hartford barrel address, "COLTS/PATENT" frame marking, patent date on a cylinder flute, unnumbered wedge, and matching serial numbers on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, back strap, and arbor pin.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. Traces of original blue finish remain on the underside of the barrel with the overall balance an attractive smooth brown patina. The back strap has a mottled gray patina. The trigger guard retains 80% original silver plating. There are replacement screws, most noticeable the hammer and wedge retention screw. The grip is fine with much of the varnish, high edge wear, a chip near the bottom and minor handling marks. The action is fine. This crisp original example of a highly desirable fluted Model 1860 Army will nicely fill the void in your Colt collection!
