Description:

This Model 1836 flintlock pistol was manufactured by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut, in 1841 and has the standard markings and features. The Model 1836 is considered the finest of all U.S. martial flintlock pistols and many were converted to percussion making original examples like this particularly desirable. Many saw hard use during the Mexican-American War and Civil War in the holsters of the U.S. cavalry. They were often converted to percussion, but this example remains all original and in spectacular condition for its age.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. This pistol is nearly in as issued condition. The iron is still mostly bright aside from the distinct, dark case colors on the barrel tang, lock, and trigger. The brass flash pan and front sight have a dark aged patina. The stock is excellent but has a chip on the edge of the right flat. The lock is mechanically excellent. The markings throughout are crisp. This pistol is certainly among the finest Model 1836s.
