Description:

This musketoon was arsenal altered to the Artillery configuration from the Sapper configuration and has a small bayonet stud on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle, a blade front sight on the front strap of the upper barrel band, the standard Springfield markings and "1853" on the lock, "1855" on the barrel tang near the standard proof marks, a faint cartouche on the left stock flat, plate on the bottom of the buttstock that originally had a sling swivel, and "US" marked buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fair with mild polished metal showing pitting and acid etching, light scratches and marks. The stock is good with a tension crack visible on the left flat at the rear lock screw, dark re-oiled finish, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
