Description:

This is a desirable example of a U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1899 "Krag Phillipine Constabulary" carbine. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL 1899.SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 354255". It has the later pattern 1902 style rear sight that is adjustable to 2,000 meters with the late pattern peep sight on the rear of the aperture. The stock has had the cleaning rod slot filled in and shortened to the correct Constabulary length. There is a script "P" proof in the pistol grip area and two sub inspector numbered proofs and a boxed "J.F.C" cartouche on the left side. (Desirable in that it confirms as being a Springfield Armory made piece). The sights are correctly marked with a "C" on the right side of the base. The front barrel band has had the bayonet lug modified, and the last 1/4 inch of the muzzle has been lathed and reblued for the later style bayonet. Includes a "U.S" marked "1903" dated bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refurbished with a brown patina overall. The barrel between the handguard and front barrel band shows areas of pitting under the finish directly along the wood line, some light high point and edge wear, and general handling marks. The receiver has a mottled brown/dark gray patina with clear markings and mild spotting. The wood is fine with relatively clear cartouche, scattered small dings and handling marks, and slightly shallow finger grooves. Mechanically excellent.
