Dating to circa 1820, this Birmingham-made blunderbuss has a round three-stage brass barrel with full length iron spring bayonet above, turned slightly belled muzzle and is signed “LONDON” and struck with post-1815 Birmingham proof marks on the breech section. The engraved iron barrel tang is fitted with the sliding bayonet release catch, and the flat bevelled lock is signed “TWIGG” and has an engraved stepped tail, safety catch and roller frizzen. Walnut three quarter length stock is fitted with brass mounts including trigger guard with pineapple finial, and a horn tipped wooden ramrod with iron worm is housed beneath the forearm. The bore is estimated above and flares to about 1 inch at the muzzle.

Fine. The barrel has well-defined turned girdles between each stage, and the signature remains clear. The engraving to the brass mounts is clear throughout. The lock has a dull grey patina with crisp engraved decoration and signature. The refinished stock is very good and has an insert repair beneath the lock. Mechanically excellent.
