Description:

The lock is dated/marked "GLUKMAN/1862/BIRMINGHAM" in front of the hammer and is marked "TRANTER", GA 13" and "R&W.ASTON" on the inside. The barrel shows standard British proofs and is also Glukman marked. The "1862" dated Glukman mark is repeated in a cartouche on the right of the buttstock, the bottom of which, behind the lower tang, is marked "W.TRANTER". The carbine shows similar features to the Pattern 1856 cavalry carbines but lacks the ramrod retention hardware and sling ring and bar and has a folding ladder rifle-type rear sight.

Rating Definition:

Very good as shortened, retains traces of thinned blue finish, mostly silvered case colors and an attractive antique patina on the brass with the balance a smooth grey-brown patina. Areas of refinish visible around the reset front sight with flat crowning on the muzzle face. The wood has minor dings and scratches throughout, some dark staining on the buttstock, and a few light chips along the ramrod channel (ramrod stuck). Mechanically excellent.
