Description:

This is a very early example of a scarce and desirable cased 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol rig, serial number "763". It is complete with the following accessories: three original matching magazines, the dummy magazine, the matching wooden shoulder stock, walnut cheekpiece (non-matching), a contemporary brown leather holster, oiler tin with leather cover and a small tin of Vaseline with leather cover, all stored in a homemade wooden storage case which utilized much of the original case hardware. The Borchardt pistol employed a very unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by Georg Luger and used throughout production of the Luger pistols from 1900 through 1942. The chamber area is marked in three lines "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." It is serial numbered "763" on the underside of the grip frame. The top of the toggle mechanism carries the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837" The right side of the barrel extension is marked; "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial proofs of a "Crown" over "B" and "U". The left rear section of the barrel is marked with the fully German commercial proofs that consists of the "Crown" over "B", "U", and "G" over "172,28". It is fitted with its original, matching (serial numbered 763) checkered walnut grips. This example includes all the noted accessories listed above.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% plus of the original blue finish, light edge and high spot wear, and the grip straps and rear upper underside of the frame having turned a gray patina finish. The markings are clear and distinct. The grips are in very good condition with light/minor handling marks around the edges, clear distinct checkering on both sides, and the tops of the diamonds showing wear and minor flattening from use and handling over the years. The detachable stock and the cheekpiece are both in very fine condition with a nice matching medium brown color overall, only minor handling marks on the sides, and 90% blue on the attaching iron. The spare magazine and dummy magazine are all in fine condition. The period home made storage case is in fair condition and suitably stores the pistol and accessories.
