Description:

Introduced in 1888, the Lee-Metford was built around a bolt locking mechanism and magazine developed by James Lee and a rifling pattern developed by William Metford. The core design of the rifle would be used along with a different rifling pattern to make the Lee-Enfield Rifle, which would be Great Britain and the Commonwealth's go-to service rifle through World War II. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with a set of flip-up volley sights on the left side of the stock and receiver, "B.S.A. Co" on the right side of the socket, and an automatic dust cover attached to the bolt, marked "26884" on the right of the receiver and bolt. The top of the chamber is stamped "E"; while many Lee-Metfords were marked this way to indicate that they were rebarreled in the Enfield rifling pattern, this bore still appears to show the original pattern Metford rifling. Fitted with a smooth straight wrist stock, with a leather sling and a brass buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 70% of the original blue finish, with areas of brown patina, mild spotting, and scattered handling marks. The stock is good, with a number of dents and scuffs, and some cracking of the upper handguard and ahead of the socket. Mechanically fine.
