This is beautiful John Martz "Baby" Luger that has been lavishly engraved by Master engraver Shiro Ogawa, sometime in the 1970s. John Martz is best known for his complete custom upgrades of Luger and P38 pistols in the 1970s and 80s. He designed and recreated these baby Lugers patterned after the famous baby Luger of George Luger as well as several variations of long barrel Lugers and P38, including custom 45 ACP Lugers. Shiro Ogawa was a master engraver on the West Coast that was very active in the late 1960s through the 1970s. This example has a short two inch barrel with a shortened grip frame and magazine. This example has been lavishly engraved with a deep relief scroll and vine pattern that covers 98% of the metal surfaces of the pistol. The only untouched areas are the upper curve of the front grip strap and the curved front area of the frame. The original factory markings have been removed or engraved over except the very front of the frame which is stamped with the original serial number "3947", and below that, it has been nicely signed "OGAWA". All of his recreations started out as original WWI or WWII military Lugers or P38s which he shortened or lengthened the frames, and altered the barrel and/or magazine as required for that model. He always maintains the unique outward appearance and profile of that pistol design. This example has the standard front and rear sight with no other proofs. It is fitted with a set of white plastic grips that are very attractive on the engraved pistol. It comes with one correct length magazine with a custom made round wooden display stand to mount and show the beauty of this wonderful pistol.
