Description:

Formed in the 1940s by the Irwin family, Michigan furniture makers, and arms designer John Pederson, Irwin-Pederson produced approximately 150,000 M1 carbines before the Ordnance Department canceled their contract, making the Irwin-Pederson the most scarce of the M1 Carbines. Blade front and "S" and "RP" marked two leaf rear sights, with a "6-43" Underwood barrel, Type I band with "UP" swivel, flat bolt, "SG" push button safety, milled "S'G'" guard, "S'G'" hammer, "E-SG" magazine catch and a blued "OIB" magazine. Smooth pistol grip stock, 2-rivet handguard, low wood forearm, unserifed "P" on the grip, "AAO" on the left side, "IR/bomb" in the sling cut, and an unmarked checkered buttplate. The left side of the stock has also been stamped "MR" with "84" painted on the grip end.

Rating Definition:

Fine as restored to World War II configuration. 75% arsenal refurbished parkerized finish remains with areas of edge wear, nicks and scratches, and some visible pitting on the charging handle under the finish. The stock is about good with dings and pressure marks throughout, mild chipping around the sling cut out and on the handguard, and visible gapping around the recoil shield. Mechanically excellent.
