Description:

This is a beautiful example of one of the 5,000 Colt Model 1889 revolvers that were produced by Colt. Out of the total of the 5,000 revolvers produced, approximately 4,637 that were returned to Colt for conversion to the 1895 cylinder and locking system. This particular revolver is one of the 363 that were not completely, but partially converted to the later configuration with the hammer being modified and with the corresponding slot added to top rear of the frame. The top of the barrel has the two line address/patent date (1884, 1888) marking. The frame cutout, underside of the barrel, back side of the cylinder crane and the cylinder all have the matching assembly number of "4046". The back side of each walnut grip is correctly penciled with the matching assembly number "4046". Additionally, the upper left rear corner of the frame, underside of the barrel and rear of the cylinder have a small "star" proof, rear and the rear of the cylinder has an additional single letter "P" firing proof. The butt is stamped "U.S.N./anchor/38DA/No/3807/P/W.W.K./1889".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% original blue finish showing only minor wear and browning on the lower front and rear grip strap. The grips are in very fine condition with their original factory varnish showing only the slightest handling marks in a couple of areas. Mechanically fine. This is truly an exceptional and rare Colt Model 1889 that any U.S. Military collector would be proud to have in his collection.
