Description:

This is a very rare example of one of the original early Inland production M1 "Test Carbines" as identified in the M1 Carbine book "War Baby". It has the standard M1 Carbine front receiver ring markings with the heel marked, "INLAND DIV./122". The barrel is marked: "INLAND MFG DIV./GENERAL MOTORS/5-42". It still retains the type two barrel band, with the two position flip rear sight. It is fitted with a Type 1 slide with 3/8th width flat, early flat blued "IO" marked bolt assembly, Type 1 trigger housing with the rear bevel, with no plunger spring recess, Type 1 hammer with slot and early Inland markings, a Type 1 serrated magazine catch, Type 1 serrated push button safety and the Type 1 early trigger housing pin with spring catch. The side of the receiver has been drilled and tapped with six holes, which have been filled in with an epoxy material, and the side of the receiver is lightly etched "UNSERVICEABLE". It is fitted with an excellent Type 1 two rivet handguard with the deep sighting groove, and an early high wood, "I" cut walnut stock. The handguard is stamped with a "O" on the underside and the stock is marked "BA-BO" on the pistol grip. It comes with an early WWII khaki colored web sling. Magazine absent. From the Bruce Dow collection.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus of the original blue/black type metal finish overall, edge and high spot wear, finish loss on the right side of the receiver, and thinning finish on the trigger housing. The stock and handguard are both in fine condition with a nice medium brown oil finish showing only minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A very nice, early Inland M1 Test Carbine.
