Description:

This is an very fine example of a Phoenix Armory Inc. recreation of the very desirable post war production M37 machine gun. The receiver is marked: "MODEL M37 CAL .30/PHOENIX ARMORY INC./HOUSTON TEXAS USA/No.G1943".The original M37 was developed in the late early 1950s by SACO-Lowell Division that was basically an updated/improved version of the Browning 1919 MG. Improvements were made to the bolt and feed mechanism that allowed it to be switched from a left to right hand feed, which made it a perfect candidate for to be used in either a fixed or in a coaxially mounted position as in the M48 and M60 Patton medium tanks. When used in the flex-mounted version as an infantry weapon it was equipped with the standard sights mounted on top of the receiver with a tripod, pintle and T&E mechanism. This example has numerous original GI parts that were assembled with a new steel machined side plate by the Phoenix Armory Inc. It has the standard medium weight barrel with a perforated barrel jacket, and it is equipped with a folding tangent rear and short folding front sight with a side mounted cocking lever. It comes with a huge amount of accessories to include a M2 tripod with T&E and pintle, three spare barrels, one spare barrel jacket with flash hider, a folding bipod, a spare flash hider, detachable carrying handle, ammunition linker, detachable metal buttstock, canvas action and barrel cover, semi-automatic conversion kit, a spare bolt, feed chute, two spare charging handles, and some smaller spare parts.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 97% of its current dark gray parkerize type finish overall with edge and high spot wear with some thinning on the side of the receiver. The various parts and accessories all look to be in excellent condition. A really nice looking fully automatic recreation of the desirable M37 machine gun. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
