Description:

This is an excellent example of a late WWII Nazi K98 long side rail sniper rifle that was manufactured by the Gustloff (bcd) factory. The top of the receiver is marked with the wartime code of "bcd" for the Gustloff Werke over "4" for 1944, the year of manufacture. The right side of the receiver is stamped with "Eagle/37" and "Eagle 1" Gustloff factory Waffenamt proofs. The top of the barrel is stamped with two partial "Eagle/37" Waffenamt acceptance proofs, and a single eagle firing proof. The barrel is also stamped with a barrel code of "edi" along with the rifle serial number. The right side of the receiver has been fitted with the long side rail type scope base held in place with three screws and two taper pins, which holds an early type all machined long side rail scope mount. The side of the mount is stamped with a single "Eagle/359" Waffenamt and serial number "8407u". The mount is fitted with a Czechoslovakian made "dow" center focus scope manufactured by the Optikotechna firm in Prerau, Czechoslovakia. The top, rear section of the scope tube is stamped "dow +", and the underside has a single serial number. The center focus adjustment is marked 1-8 (100-800 meters), and it has the standard WWII German three post reticle pattern. The rifle itself has the correct milled front barrel band and a stamped lower band. It is also fitted with the milled trigger guard and floorplate, with the trigger guard unnumbered with the floorplate stamped "1/8407". It is fitted with the correct late war laminated bcd style K98 stock with a single "H" Heers Waffenamt on the left side of the buttstock and a checkered cupped buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with high spot wear and thinning of the blue finish on the barrel front band and edges of the trigger guard bow. The stock is in very fine condition with a nice medium brown color overall showing light scratches on the sides and underside of the buttstock in a few areas and heavier gouges on the left side over the trigger and in front of the buttplate. The scope and mount retain 85% plus of their original blue finish overall with the outside rear ocular area of the scope showing some fading and the full length, right side of the scope/rings showing extensive areas of light to moderate pin-prick type pitting and blue loss. The optics on the scope are clear with some delamination of the rear lens, and the center adjustment is frozen.
