Description:

This is an example of a very early and exceptionally rare G41 rifle as produced by the Berlin-Lubecker company. These rifles were produced early on in the production cycle of the G41/G43 Series of semi-automatic rifles with an estimated total production of less than 10,000 before all production switched to the G43 series of rifles. These early G41 series of rifles used the "Bang Gas-Trap" system which employed a barrel mounted "Gas Trap" muzzle cone to trap hot gas that was bled off when the round was fired and which cycled the action. This entire series of rifles was very short lived, and they saw extensive use on the Eastern Front where a semi-automatic rifles was desirable. Consequently, their survival rate is relatively low (to other German rifles) in any condition. The later series of G/K43 rifles was far more reliable and easier to produce. It used a barrel mounted gas system. This rifle has the very early Type 1 receiver and associated parts with components that were mostly all machined, blued and beautifully finished. The left side of the receiver is marked with the large "G41 duv 43, Eagle/214" followed by the serial number. In addition to the receiver, it has the all machined bolt and bolt carrier and early all machined action cover. The trigger guard and box magazine are the correct stamped wartime versions. The stock is the correct wartime laminated model that is marked on the right side with a double "Eagle/214" Waffenamt proof and a single "Eagle/214" Waffenamt proof in the pistol grip area. The rifle is equipped with the rare Phenolic resin (plastic) handguard as manufactured in 1941/42 that is correctly marked inside with the "PAG", "2270", and "45" proof marks which were the wartime markings of the "Presswerk AG". The rifle is complete with an original cleaning rod, a brown cross-hatched leather sling, and original front sight cover.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 97% of the wartime type blued finish overall that is showing just some minor edge and high spot wear overall with a little browning on the rear of the action cover and the front edge of the box magazine. The front gas system has been professionally refinished and is barely detectable. The stock is also very fine with correct color with no delaminations on the stock anywhere, with some very minor sanding marks visible in front of the buttplate on the comb. The stock proofs are clear and visible, it has all matching serial numbers, and the sling is very good.
