This is an all original example of an early DWM Model 1900 American Eagle commercial luger pistol. These pistols were the first true commercial contract pistols and can be found in the serial number range of 2,000-19,000. This is an exceptionally early example bearing serial number "2021", which means serial number "21". These pistols were intended for sales outside of Europe, specifically for the U.S. market and is correctly stamped with "GERMANY" on the front of the frame. This model has the American Eagle roll marked over the chamber with the DWM markings on the front toggle. This pistol has the early features, such as the early long frame with flat recoil spring, dished toggles with toggle lock, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch tapered barrel, grip safety, first type safety with the bright polished lower safety area. Interestingly this luger has the early second type safety lever with the slightly higher raised thumb area that is checkered and not serrated and the left side of the barrel has a small Swiss Cross firing proof; both of these features were used on the first Swiss contract lugers, clearly indicating that DWM reused left over contract parts in follow-on commercial contracts. It has the correct commercial style serial number placement with serial number "2021" stamped on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel, with the last two digits (21) on the trigger, side plate, breech block and toggle train. The takedown lever has the serial number stamped on the right side raised dome area like the later U.S. test eagle luger. This Luger is complete with a nickel plated magazine with the wood base.

Very fine as partially refinished (grip straps, barrel, left side of frame, straw) with the balance retaining 90% of the blued finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The smaller parts retain 98% of their straw colors overall. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides. Mechanically excellent.
