Description:

This is a very fine pre-WWII Krieghoff P.08 luger rig that was manufactured for the Luftwaffe. It is estimated that approximately 7400 Krieghoff Luger were actually manufactured by the end of 1936, which included the S-Code and 1936 dated lugers. Of that number it is estimated that only 4,000 "S" Code contract Lugers were actually produced in total. As noted this example has the early "S" Code over the chamber which was the secret wartime code used by the Nazi during the early rearmament that indicted manufacture in 1936. The serial numbers of this series started with a low two digit number, which certainly indicates that this is a very early-production example. It has the standard features with a B-2 die marked toggle that has the early Krieghoff Anchor flanked by "H/K" over "SUHL" only. The left point of the anchor nearly touches the letter "H," with the tip of the "K" outside the anchor point. It is marked with only one word, "SUHL" underneath which has the flat bottom letter "U". The barrel extension is marked with the early "LWaA" 1st-stage early Luftwaffe acceptance proof along with the Luftwaffe test proof and small "eagle/2" proof on the right side. The underside of the barrel has the bore diameter over an early "eagle/2" acceptance proof and no serial number, which is correct for this early example. Typical military style serial number placement with the full serial number "1634" on the front frame and left side of the barrel extension and the last two digits on the various small parts. Fitted with the early small fine checkered Ritzmann grips. The pistol comes with two original, unmarked nickel plated magazines with the cast aluminum bases that are stamped with an inverted "eagle/2" proof over serial number "1634" and "1634/(non-factory crudely added large+)" marks respectively. It is complete with a early black leather holster that is proofed on the back side with an unreadable manufacturers mark over "WaA142/1935". The date has been over stamped with serial number "4935" with a second faint serial number below that.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the original blue finish on the barrel extension and toggle assembly with edge and high spot wear and blue loss on the muzzle. The frame and side plate are professionally refinished. The smaller parts retain 70% of their original straw colors overall with slightly more color in the protected areas. The grips are in excellent condition showing no visible handling marks. The holster is also in very good condition with a nice black overall color with tight stitching and visible markings as noted above. It shows some minor scratches and handling marks overall with slight fading of the color on the top of the flap. A very nice looking early S-Code (1936) Krieghoff luger rig.
