Description:

This is a very fine example of a desirable pre-war Krieghoff Luger that was manufactured specifically for the German Luftwaffe with the full "1936" dated chamber area. It is estimated that by 1936 approximately 7,400 Lugers were manufactured in total by Krieghoff for the Luftwaffe, which included all "S" code and 1936 dated models. Of that number only 2,900 were manufactured with the full "1936" dated chamber. Krieghoff was the only official supplier to the Luftwaffe during WWII, as they had great ties to Hermann Goering, head of the Luftwaffe, and they are highly prized for their excellent pre-war blued metal finish. This example has the full "1936" date chamber area with the front toggle stamped with the 1936 pattern, C-1stamping die that has the "Krieghoff dagger/anchor" flanked by the "H" and "K" with "KRIEGHOFF/SUHL" underneath. The Krieghoff name runs from the full width, left to right side of the top of the toggle, with the round bottom "U" centered below the "E" and "G" in Krieghoff. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the bore diameter "884" over the eagle/2 Luftwaffe acceptance proof, over the full serial number "4918". The right side of the barrel extension has the double "Krieghoff eagle/2" acceptance proof with the single eagle firing proof in between. The right side of the barrel has the same single eagle firing proof. The front of the frame, underside of the barrel and left side of the barrel extension all have the full serial number, "4918" with the smaller parts stamped with the last two digits of the serial number "18", all matching except the firing pin, grips and magazine. It is fitted with the early Ritzmann brown plastic grip with the fine checkering and smooth outer edge. It comes with a tin plated magazine with an aluminum base that is stamped with a inverted "eagle/2" proof over serial number "4926" (eight digits away from "4918"). It is complete with a German Army, black leather holster stamped "cea/1942" and P.08 on the back side, with a "eagle/63" proofed takedown tool inside.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, 85% plus of the original blue finish with edge and high spot wear overall and minor blue loss on the muzzle area, front edges of the frame rails, and side plate hump, and slight thinning on the grip straps and lug area. The smaller parts retain 50% of their original straw colors overall. The grips are also in very fine condition with minor handling marks overall. The holster is in excellent condition with a nice original black finish overall showing some minor wrinkling of the leather on the face of the holster with intact white stitching and clear sharp markings on the back.
