The First Model 1890 slide action rifle has the distinctive features of concealed locking lugs and solid frame, and they were only manufactured from 1890 to 1892. About 1,800 First Models chambered in .22 WRF were produced (Schwing's Winchester Slide Action Winchester, Vol. 1," page 218). The barrel has a dovetail blade front sight, a notch rear sight in the dovetail slot and the two-line address and "22 W.R.F." stamped on the top flat. The upper tang has the three-line model/patent date marking. The hammer, frame, trigger guard and buttplate are casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are blue. Mounted with a 12-groove forearm and straight grip stock.

Fine. The barrel, magazine tube and bolt retaining 80% original blue finish with high edge and cycling wear on the balance. The cycling bar has mostly a bright appearance. The frame, hammer and trigger guard retaining 90% original case colors and the buttplate retaining 50% original case colors. There is some pitting on the frame (mostly right side) and buttplate. The wood is also very fine showing some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
