Description:

This revolver was completed at Colt's London factory in 1853, the first year of English production, and is one of only an estimated 11,000 London '49 Pockets produced compared to over 325,000 Hartford produced '49 Pockets making it a rare and desirable variation of Colt's most widely used model. Like many '49 Pockets, this revolver shows signs of real period use; however, it also remains in high condition, a delicate balance sought by many collectors. The revolver features a small cone front sight, "{ADDRESS COL. COLT/LONDON.}" on the top of the barrel, London proof and view marks, the stagecoach cylinder scene, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, and the matching early serial number "681" on the loading lever, wedge, arbor pin, cylinder, barrel, frame, grip straps, and rear mortise of the grip (in ink). The case has blue lining and contains an L-shaped combination tool, dual cavity bullet mold, Eley cap tin, Dixon powder flask, and assortment of lead balls and conical bullets.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus original blue finish on the barrel and cylinder, smooth brown patina where the finish has flaked, patches of original blue finish in the protected areas of the grip straps which otherwise display a hand-worn smooth gray patina, 40% plus original case colors, generally distinct markings, and honest mild wear throughout. The grip is very fine and has smooth oiled finish, minor lower edge wear, and light handling wear. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are also fine and have mild storage wear. Overall, this is a very attractive cased set centered on a very nice early London Model 1849 Pocket.
