Description:

The Model 1861 Navy is among the most attractive and least produced of Colt percussion revolvers. Only 38,843 were manufactured in 1861-1873 compared to around 200,500 of the Model 1860 Army revolvers in 1860-1873 and 215,348 Model 1851 Navy revolvers in 1850-1873, and the number purchased for the Union Army and Navy number only in the few thousands rather than the tens of thousands of the Model 1860s. This revolver was manufactured in 1862 and has "LL" on the left side of the barrel near the wedge, "C" to the right of the wedge, "LL" and "F" on the cylinder, "S" behind the trigger guard, "L" at the top of the back strap, and traces of an inspector's cartouche on the left side of the grip. The other markings and features are standard, including matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original blue and hints of casehardened finish in the protected areas, mostly smooth gray or brown patina where the finish has faded, distinct cylinder scene and most other markings, mild pitting, attractive aged patina on the grip frame, and mild marks and scratches. Cocking the hammer does not rotate the cylinder. The grip is very good and has dark oiled finish, traces of a cartouche, and mild scrapes and dings.
