Manufactured from 1888 to 1895. The barrel rib is signed "FA DE JUAN J. LARRANAGA EIBAR" in gold. Gold damascene floral scrollwork patterns on a matte background are featured on the barrel, cylinder, frame, and trigger guard. The scrollwork incorporates a mythical winged beast on each side of the frame, and mythical beast heads are amongst the scrollwork on the cylinder. The barrel has bands of gold at the muzzle and breech. The cylinder flutes are plated in gold, and the rest of the surfaces have a high polished blue finish. Inlaid gold work extends to the back strap which is inscribed "JOSE BENTO" on a matte background. Champion Portuguese cyclist Jose Bento Pessoa (1874-1954) was awarded numerous medals for his speed racing, including the holder of the 500 meter world record in 1897 that then won the first ever Spanish National Road Race Championships and winner of the Zimmerman Grand Prix, the then most prestigious European cycling race. The Estadio Municipal Jose Bento Pessoa, a multi-use stadium in Portugal, was named in his honor. Comes with a wooden partitioned case and a bore brush.

Very fine. The barrel and trigger guard retain 97% original high polished blue finish with high edge wear and a few small patches of spotting and the underside of the frame, front strap and butt retain 90% thinned original high polished blue finish. Nearly all of the original gold and matte background remains. Some original nitre blue remains on the hammer and trigger. The grips are excellent with minimal handling marks and fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good. A truly spectacular gold damascene revolver, fine art at its best!
