Description:

Manufactured from 1872 to 1874. The Gustave Young factory engraving consists of deluxe coverage floral scroll on a punch dot background covering 80% of the surface. It has the one-line barrel rib marking ending with the 1869 patent date, and matching assembly mark "C900" on the grip frame, cylinder, barrel, and barrel latch. The right grip panel features a relief carved Mexican eagle motif. The revolver is chambered in the rare .44 Henry rimfire cartridge. S&W manufactured a total of 3,014 .44 Henry rimfire No. 3 Americans. Many of these rimfire revolvers went to Mexico via the S&W distributor Wexell & DeGress; who also provided grips such as these for various makes of handguns to the South American market.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as factory engraved, retaining 97% factory appearance reapplied nickel plating with very minimal flaking. 70% original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger guard. The grips are fine with typical hairline age cracking and a couple small chips on the bottom of the left panel, minor handling marks and crisp carving. Cylinder timing needs very minor adjustment, otherwise mechanically excellent. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
