Description:

This is one of only 276 .38 Winchester Double Action Revolvers S&W manufactured from 1900 to 1910. A derivative of the 44-40 Winchester cartridge, the 38-40 never found the same level of popularity as its parent, resulting in limited production and scarcity on the current market. A factory July 1956 ("7 56") return date is stamped on the grip frame. Matching serial numbers are on the butt, cylinder, barrel and barrel latch.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 98% plus of the factory reapplied nickel plating with some minor handling marks and an area of finished over pitting on the frame (right side). The grips are very good with some worn checkering and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
