Description:

Frame manufactured in 1890. The revolver has the distinctive black powder flattop target ejectorless frame made even rarer by not being cut for an ejector. Ejectorless SAA frames are rarely encountered outside Sheriff's Model configurations (barrel lengths shorter than 4 3/4 inches). Ejectorless 7 1/2 inch Flattops were produced only on special order presumably, as pointed out in "A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver," by "an old-time target shooter [who] felt that the omission of the ejector on his Flattop would give the revolver a better 'balance,' enabling his score to be a few points higher than his competition." The frame has a dovetail mounted target rear sight, and the barrel has a target front sight. The barrel has been modified to accept an ejector type system. The barrel is stamped with the one-line Hartford address on top and "450 ELEY" on the left side. The underside of the barrel is stamped "10", "V", and "45" in small font. The cylinder is stamped "45 B" on the front face, "1" on the rear face, and alternating British proofs between the chambers. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking. The trigger guard is numbered to a different gun ("133205"). Matching serial numbers are on the frame and back strap. Colt manufactured an estimated total of 925 Single Action Flattop Target Models, with only a handful being ejectorless.

Rating Definition:

Fine as assembled (see above), retaining 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The cylinder pin screw is a replacement. The replacement grips are very good with some minor handling marks and wear. Mechanically fine.
